Project no.1: progression 1

In each project, I've made a certain sequence of how to make this painting into an animation and to make that happen later on, it is essential for me to break these paintings apart from the beginning and start working on each layer in different areas.

Making a thumbnail for how the environment painting would turn out is necessary but later on, it all lies on me how the painting will turn out. There are usually around 6~8 pieces of layer, all fully detailed and ready to move on its own.

Project no.1: Start of the project and visual reserach

Project no.1: Tranquility

These projects have its own name and the origin of the place. To begin with, the no.1 project, Tranquility has several locations in 1 place, such as mountainous area with waterfall in a same place. Also, an appearance of a castle with a cliff looking over the view of the castle will have its impact for audiences and for the protagonist within the painting as well. Images below are references which will later be useful to look into while on a process of creating the project.

Thumbnail!

Before start painting, the artist needs to know where the painting will start from, and that, without a doubt applies to me as well. Therefore, getting these thumbnails finished is the main priority, in my opinion.

These thumbnails were done as quickly as possible to just get the feeling of how the painting might turn out to be. It took around 10-15 minutes per drawing and surprisingly, the result wasn't so bad.

• Surprisingly, David liked the project of mine and wants to continue with it
• Hard time with writing contents of the visual narrative
• Talked with Brian about Mise-en-scene
• How game and animation will be edited/can be used as a research material and be written in the dissertation

Priorities:

• Start making more of these paintings as fast as possible with up-to-the-standard quality
• Next time, I will need to show the dissertation progress and see how that turns out.

Eadweard Muybridge: Movement

Eadweard Muybridge

One of the interesting fact to learn about moving concept painting was how to capture the movement of the 'moving' painting while expressing enough narrative stories within. Eadweard Muybridge's 'The Horse in Motion' had a major impact as a first impression, capturing images after images while it still had its process and continuation of that moment.

The study of the movement of different subject became surprisingly addictive while it has its uses and information. Implementing this technique (including several other techniques combined) into the painting could be another way of expression to painting genre. However, the gap between 'movement' and 'still' image is another task to compare and realise which side has its advantages and disadvantages for me to create a final artefact. 

Realism

Realism Art

Realism is an artistic movement in 19th century (more precisely in 1850s) and eventually it was to portray the accurate side of contemporary people's life style and circumstances, including all the pros and cons of life events. Compare to naturalism, realism is has more of its insight and able to depict more story whereas naturalistic painting needs to be exactly same as the painting and that moment, which most of the cases, it shows the life of normal people. These two artists below focuses on using realism and influences other sides of artistic view, such as the use of traditional methods of painting and absorbing the countryside settings.

For my personal project, the use of realism will fit much better compare to naturalism since the character will be situated in a place with intense condition and to be able to depict that moment is rather difficult to be portrayed as a naturalism.

The dissertation won't write itself and this will need to be done with accurate information including personal opinions (and why this personal opinion can exist in that specific topic and how this opinion can be related with by using certain information etc). That will be the general idea of writing the dissertation - eventually, this is just another essay but longer version with 3rd person writing style.
